I saw a movie based on a true-life story of a girl who was trafficked to Cambodia to work as a sex slave; and I have been researching non-stop about organizations who help combat such in Nigeria; and I have been shocked.

I have been researching to know if we have people helping these girls and boys who are being forced into prostitution; and also to find out how I can volunteer.

No one sees a young girl who could have been her sister or daughter go through such horrible act, and folds her hands.

You just will never remain the same if you read and see what is going on as regards human trafficking either for forced labor or for sexual exploitation.

Also, it might interest you to know that Nigeria is said to be one of the leading African countries in human trafficking with cross-border and internal trafficking. So sad.

As a matter of fact, National Agency For The Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) recently released the details of the most wanted human traffickers in Nigeria. A female who is said to lure young girls and women into Dubai and then make them sex slaves/prostitutes.

Her name is Perebi Nicole Otubo and although she had served some jail term in Dubai for this offense, she is at large and currently said to be hiding somewhere in Nigeria.

She is just one of the few people who are making life unbearable for young girls who should be in school, working to make life better for themselves in the future.

Moreover, as parents, we need to become more sensitive.

As sisters, more concerned.

As neighbors, more involved

And as citizens, helpful in combating this menace.

NAPTIP’s report for the first to third quarter of 2017 is extremely sad. It shows that people even traffic humans to sell their organs… (My heart bleeds). You can read the report here.

This is just NAPTIP. You need to read reports from other agencies too, and you will know that if we don’t all help one way or the other to help combat this, we might be in big trouble if we are not in trouble already.

So sad, and I hope this write up stirs up something in you.

NAPTIP has several offices in different parts of the country, and you can also google more agencies if you would like to help one way or the other.

Lastly, say a prayer for every girl going through this right now, pray that they hold on tight enough and for help to locate them fast too.
